Grand Prairie United Charities gets Thanksgiving help
With 325 families to help with food this Thanksgiving, the Grand Prairie United Charities (GPUC) got some much needed assistance Wednesday morning from the Primrose School of Grand Peninsula.
Twelve Pre-K students with help from three teachers, brought in 370 can goods the school collected during this month’s “Can-a-Thon.”
Primrose School, an accredited private preschool, has incorporated community service into its curriculum, said Dianna Roberts, Curriculum Director. Each quarter the school has a different community outreach program, she added.
“This is part of the curriculum, part of the Primrose philosophy of building a well rounded child,” Roberts said. “It’s not just the academics, it’s not just the phonics and math, it’s building their character.”
GPUC Executive Director Debra Blubaugh said it is now accepting applications for Christmas assistance through December 3. She added that last year the organization helped 749 with gifts and food. She expects to have more requests for help this year.
“I would love to see some of the local businesses, big and small, organizations, and churches to assist with adopting some of the families that come to us,” Blubaugh said.
