Central Park gets the Scouting Experience
To celebrate 100 years of Scouting, Boy Scouts from across Grand Prairie setup displays and various activities Saturday at Central Park to present the Scouting Experience. The event attracted hundreds of youth interested in what Scouting has to offer.
Councilman Greg Giessner delivered a proclamation to Randy White, District Chairman Mountain Lake District, from Mayor Charles England declaring Saturday as Boy Scouts of America Day in Grand Prairie.
White said this year’s Scouting Experience is the inaugural event with plans already in the making for next year. He added that the event is a way for Scouts to reach out to the community and demonstrate some of Scouting’s character building activities.
One visitor, Tyrin Wright, 13, said he came to Scouting Experience because he wanted to “check out Scouting.” Wright said he liked the event and is thinking of joining Scouts.
Some of the day’s activities included:
Camp site cooking
Archery
Amateur radio
Rope bridge
Pinewood derby
Sail boat racing
