“The Heritage” art exhibition features mother-daughter artists
The beautifully restored historic Anderson Building was filled Sunday with sixty pieces of art from the latest collection of recognized mother-daughter artists Sharon Elliott of Grand Prairie and Felicia Hunt of Baton Rouge, La. The show included a reception, entertainment and a live auction with a portion of the proceeds going to Alley’s House.
Presented by Carlos and Carla, LLC and curator Michelle Bruins of Frisco, the exhibition titled “The Heritage” showcased an artist mother who has passed her gift of art and creativity along to her daughter showing the significance of family, faith, and love.
Bruins said that although the artists use the same medium of acrylic and oil, their styles are profoundly different. Elliott shows her love of the human body by using free-flowing brush strokes to accentuate curves. Hunt on the other hand shows a unique artistic expression by combining abstractionism and portraiture. Both artists share a rich use of color and bold sense of style.
Hunt who was taught art at an early age by her mother said her work is greatly influenced by the masters such as Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
Although her work has been in galleries for the past eight years, “The Heritage” is her first show.
Elliott said painting and photography started as a hobby and is now her passion.
She wants to bring more recognition to the city’s artists and plans to have another art show next year featuring other local artists. She envisions someday Grand Prairie having an art walk festival with local artists’ work displayed along Main Street.
