Grand Prairie Wellness Center receives major grant
Chuck Poffenbarger, President/CEO, for the Center was thrilled with the tremendous show of support saying, “This money will help hundreds of people in a time when so many are absolutely desperate for medical and dental treatment. Our board feels this is a historic moment—a turning point for us. Not since we built the original facilities in 2001 has there been this type of support. Certainly this reflects well on the professionalism of our Executive Director, Tencha Rodriguez, who has worked tirelessly to develop relationships throughout the healthcare community and all across Dallas County.”
Since 2001, the Grand Prairie Wellness Center has served almost 32,000 patients with a total of almost $3Million in “medical value” provided to the children and adults in the surrounding communities.
Earlier this year, the center had to cut back on the number of patients it was able to serve due to dramatic reductions in the amount of individual donation and corporate and foundation grants.
One of the founding committee members explained the turn-around, “As I understand it, the Wellness Center is receiving $107,000 per year for the next three years plus a fulltime physician’s assistant. With this large grant, the Center is being recognized and supported by the major leaguers. What a blessing for all those the GPWC serves and will serve in the coming years.”
“This isn’t just a boost for a few months—these monies are a sign that the health community itself is recognizing the needs in Grand Prairie and the Southern sectors of Dallas and Tarrant counties and addressing them in a creative, collaborative effort,” Poffenbarger continued. “It recognizes our track record and the impact you can make with a core of dedicated physicians and volunteers.”
The center--located at 1710 Small Street, Grand Prairie, Texas-- serves thousands of low-income families with quality medical and dental services. Doctors and other medical professionals volunteer their time to provide free medical and low-cost dental services to low-income families, with family income at or below the 125% federal poverty guidelines. Volunteers are also used for in variety of administrative positions.
The Grand Prairie Wellness Center is a 501 (c )(3) non profit corporation operating in the State of Texas. To find out ways you can help the Grand Prairie Wellness Center, please call Tencha Rodriguez, Executive Director, (972) 266-9123, or visit the web site www.gpwellnesscenter.org.
