City welcomes new food store
A $5,000 donation to the North Texas Food Bank highlighted Thursday’s “Dollar Cutting” opening ceremony at the Save-a-Lot Food Store, 2506 S. Belt Line Road.
With the donation, Williams Daniels of North Texas Food Bank said, the nonprofit relief organization could provide 20,000 meals to needy families.
Save-a-Lot, a discount grocery chain operating nearly 1,200 stores in 39 states, boasts of saving 40 percent on a typical grocery bill. The food stores carry a carefully selected assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, meat, and the most popular grocery and household items. Eighty-five percent of the items are private store brand.
“Our focus is really about providing that great food, the great prices, and the quality service, and the ease and convenience for our customers,” said Chon Tomlin, Save-a-Lot spokesperson.
“We’re really excited about the Grand Prairie Community,” Tomlin added. “We’re definitely planning to be a pillar of the community.”
To prove the store’s convenience with its size and layout, Councilman Mark Hepworth, William Daniels of North Texas Food Bank, Greg Cashman of the Grand Prairie Chamber of Commerce pushed grocery carts through the aisles grabbing pre-selected items in the Race for Savings. The team of Cashman and 4 year-old Oscar Rojas took top honors picking up their items the fastest.
