Arts Council presents summer theatre production

The Grand Prairie Arts Council in conjunction with the Missoula Children’s Theater presented two performances Saturday at the Uptown Theater of Betty Lou and the Country Beat, a country western musical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, as a part of its July at the Uptown, Summer in the Arts 2010.

Missoula Children’s Theater provided the set, the props, the script, and costumes for the thirty student actors featured in the production.

Libby Clawson, Arts Council Executive Director, said with the Uptown’s professional lights and sound, the two actors/directors from Missoula, the young actors were introduced to “learning lines, learning music, putting it all together, and putting on a really good professional show.”

July at the Uptown, Summer in the Arts 2010 continues with Art Explosion, July 26-30. Taught by GPISD Art Teacher, Kelly Giessner projects include:

Screen printed aprons
Paper Mache balloon bowls
3-D plaster head self-portrait
Paper Mache Sculpture
Monochromatic Collage
Personalized plate and block printing
Students' artwork will be showcased in an art exhibit & reception on July 30 at the Uptown.
