School district expects to be named “Recognized”

Based on preliminary spring TAKS test scores, the Grand Prairie Independent School District expects to be named “Recognized” for the second time in its history (1999). It will be the first time the District has been rated Recognized under the current TAKS accountability system.

If these preliminary scores hold true, the District will have a total of 32 of its 38 eligible campuses rated either Recognized or Exemplary. Only 5 will be rated as Academically Acceptable with no Academically Unacceptable campuses.

Since 2007, the District has seen marked improvement in student achievement:

In 2007: 24% of GPISD schools were rated Recognized
In 2008: 33% of GPISD schools were rated Recognized or Exemplary
In 2009: 65% of GPISD schools were rated Recognized or Exemplary
In 2010: 84% of GPISD schools are expected to be rated Recognized or Exemplary!

“As a District, we are thrilled with these preliminary results! I want to offer my congratulations to each and every employee in the District for the hard work they do every day to make our students successful,” said GPISD Superintendent of Schools Dr. Susan Simpson.

Final state accountability ratings will be released by the Texas Education Agency later this summer.
