AirHogs fall to Cats, 9-1

By Travis L. Brown

The AirHogs managed to stave off a first shutout game of the season in a 9-1 loss to the Fort Worth Cats at QuikTrip Park Thursday.

The Cats began the scoring in the third on a Brian Fryer home run to deep left, followed by a big three run inning the top of the fifth off ‘Hogs starter Luke Prihoda. Three singles and a double from Brenan Herrera tallied the Cats three-spot in the inning.

They scratched out their fifth run on a grounder up the middle in the top of the sixth, then knocked ‘Hogs pitcher Edgar Estanga around in the ninth, scoring two off a double and a triple. One more crossed home plate on a base hit in the six-hole bringing the Cats score to nine.

AirHog catcher Flint Wipke broke up the shutout effort with a matching solo shot to left field to give Grand Prairie their only run of the game.

Despite the loss, the ‘Hogs remain on top of the South Division of the American Association over the Shreveport-Bossier Captains.

Grand Prairie travels west to El Paso for a three game set, before returning to QuikTrip Park Friday, June 11th to face the Pensacola Pelicans.
