The Summit - Open House
Grand Prairie ISD Trustee Chester McCrary said in 2008at the ground breaking for Dubiski Career High School that it is “one of the crown jewels” of the district. On Saturday, the national award winning Grand Prairie Parks and Recreation held an open house for its “crown jewel,” The Summit.
More than 4,000 visitors toured this incredible 60,000 square foot facility for those 50 years and older. Located in beautiful Central Park, the $23 million Summit offers amenities found nowhere else for seniors.
“There’s nothing like this in America, not Dallas/Fort Worth, not Texas, there’s nothing like it in America,” Rick Herold, Parks and Recreation Director said.
Summit Manager Linda Long said the center, with its 4,000 square foot fitness area complete with state-of-the-art equipment, gym, pool and sauna, and indoor walking track, is not just a place to workout. It’s a place for seniors to stop by, meet their friends have a drink and snack from the Terrace Cafe, socialize, and enjoy the atmosphere of the lobby with its player piano or go out onto the courtyard to take in the scenic Central Park.
Along with this atmosphere, she added seniors can also take part in the many social events, educational programs offered, and join-up with people of similar interests. In addition, she said The Summit has many planned events throughout the year like:
Dances and live bands in the ballroom
A singles club
Computer classes
Investment clubs
Televised championship games and sporting events in the theater
Health and wellness seminars
Guest chef cooking demonstrations in the teaching kitchen
Wine and Cheese tasting
Lunch served daily in the dining area
Arts and crafts classes
Fitness programs
With more than 2,300 signed-up for membership, The Summit begins daily operation on May 24. More information about The Summit and membership is available online or by calling 972-237-4141.
