July at the Uptown - Summer in the Arts 2010
Developed to inspire a child’s creative side, the summer program is open to children ages 5-18. The weeklong daytime workshops run throughout the week and culminate with finale performances and exhibits.
July 5-9: Dance Expression (finished 1st Grade – age 15) with Certified Dance Instructor Lela Bell. Students will experience various dance forms and technique while learning about the orgins of the genre. Participants will choreograph and perform their own works. Finale Recital - Friday, July 9 at 7:30 pm.
July 12-17: GPAC’s Annual Children’s Summer Theatre Production (for ages 5 & finished Kindergarten – age 18) with Missoula Children’s Theatre - Beauty Lou and the Country Beast. Auditions will be held on Monday, July 12 at 9:45 am to cast students in the production. Public Performances - Saturday, July 17 at 3:00 & 5:30 pm.
July 19-23: Move to the Music, Opera Style (finished 1st Grade – age 15) with Colleen Mallette, classically trained soprano and comedienne, sponsored by the Texas Commission on the Arts Rostering Roster. Participants will combine instruments, voice & art to write, decorate and perform their own opera, all skill levels are welcome. Students will perform on Friday, July 23 at 7 pm; followed by an operatic-spoof, “How To Birth A Song” by Colleen Mallette at 8 pm.
July 26-30: Art Explosion (finished 1st Grade – age 15) taught by Kelly Giessner, GPISD Art Teacher. Create masterpieces using a variety of art media showcased in an art exhibit & reception in the Uptown on Friday afternoon at 4:00 pm.
