‘Hogs take Explorers to school during education day at QuikTrip Park
AirHogs starting pitcher James Paxton had a noteworthy start Wednesday, tallying his first professional win against the Sioux City Explorers by the score of 7-5, in front of a day-game crowd of nearly 4,000 school children on the AirHogs 3rd Annual “Education Day.”
In six innings, Paxton gave up one run in a one hit effort. Shortstop David Espinosa continued his offensive tear, going 2-3 and bringing his season average up to .479.
The AirHogs began the scoring in the bottom of the third, tallying four after getting a runner picked off second. Paxton went through four innings without giving up a single hit, until Ray Serrano of the Explorers knocked a flare into left.
Grand Prairie got two more in the fifth off of an opposite field homer from Greg Porter on to the netting in left field for his first of the season. The AirHogs put up one more and Sioux City managed four runs in the eighth and ninth, but it wouldn’t be enough as Grand Prairie reliever Geivy Garcia notched the first save of the season, solidifying the win for the ‘Hogs.
The Explorers took both games of yesterday’s double header, the AirHogs losing 11-2 and 6-5.
The AirHogs hit the road for a four-game series against Pensacola starting May 21. Grand Prairie returns to QuikTrip Park Tuesday, May 25 to take on Shreveport-Bossier at 7:05 p.m.
