Greg Porter named Batter of the Week

Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association, has named the AirHogs’ Greg Porter last week’s Pointstreak Batter of the Week.

Porter hit .423 with two home runs and 10 RBI in six games for Grand Prairie. The Keller, TX resident also scored seven runs, collected 11 hits and had a slugging percentage of .769. Porter went five-for-six in Saturday’s game with 5 RBIs against the Pensacola Pelicans, hitting one out of the park for his second home of the season.

Porter is batting .385 on the season so far with four doubles and 10 RBIs in his first year with the AirHogs.

Named 2009 American Association Player of the Year, Porter comes to the AirHogs from the Wichita Wingnuts. While with Wichita in 2009, Porter hit a career high .375 with 21 home runs and 83 RBIs.

Drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 42nd round in the 2001 MLB draft, Porter spent his first seven professional years in the Angels minor league system. In 2008, Porter split time on both the Washington Nationals’ and New York Yankee’s AAA affiliates, hitting a combined .255 average with both teams.

Greg Porter was the first AirHogs player to hit a homerun into the outfield pool located in right-centerfield of QuikTrip Park. On May 14, 2010, the pool was officially re-named “Porter Pool Deck.”

The AirHogs return home for a five-game homestand starting Tuesday, May 25th at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased in-person at the QuikTrip Park Box Office, located at 1600 Lone Star Parkway, Grand Prairie, TX 75050, by calling 972.504.9383 or visiting www.airhogsbaseball.com.
