Espinosa delivers in the 9th, Airhogs top Captains 3-2
Delivering a walk-off base-hit in the bottom of the ninth, American Association batting leader David Espinosa shot a liner into right field scoring the go-ahead run from second and ending the AirHogs’ two-game skid in front of a Wednesday afternoon crowd of 5,169.
Both starters put up quality starts—Captains pitcher Justin Young pitched 7 innings giving up one run on five hits, while ‘Hogs starter Jarod Plummer went 6.2 innings giving up two runs on six hits, striking out two.
Grand Prairie began the scoring in the bottom of the second on a Joe Spiers sacrifice fly bringing home one run on the tag.
A double followed by two singles in the 3rd inning would score the only two runs for the Captains, but they wouldn’t be enough for the win.
Pitcher Daniel Schmidt made his first appearance for the AirHogs in relief going a third of an inning giving up one hit and a walk. The Aussie native joined the AirHogs roster before Tuesday’s game.
The AirHogs continue the series Thursday at QuikTrip Park during the first Thirsty Thursday $1 Beer Night of the year presented by Boost Mobile and 105.3 The Fan.
