Lone Star Tea Party rallies on tax day
An exuberant crowd estimated by police to be around 8,000 crowded onto the field and in the seats at QuikTrip Park at Grand Prairie Thursday night to hear a host of speakers protest a growing government with progressive policies and out-of-control spending.
Emceed by radio personality Mark Davis (WBAP 820), the rally featured several speakers including:
Mike Gallagher (KSKY 660)
Jeff Bolton (KLIF 570)
Bob Basso portraying Thomas Paine
Alfonzo 'Zo' Rachel
The tax day rally was hosted by a coalition of north Texas Tea Party groups from Arlington, Dallas, Irving and many other area cities and counties. The Tea Party movement is a populist protest movement that promotes fiscal conservatism and supports constitutionally limited government.
Tearyne Glover a student at the University of Texas at Arlington said she came to the rally to listen to one of her favorite radio talk show hosts, to hear the issues so she can make informed decisions. “It is my responsibility as an over eighteen year-old adult to inform myself, then go and get information, whether it’s from the left side or the right side,” Glover said.
Gregor Mszar of Bedford an immigrant whose parents fled communism in Russia, was very emphatic with his feelings towards elected officials, “In November we’re going to vote the “bums” out. And who are the “bums,” the Senators and Congressmen of both parties that don’t listen to the people. They go to Washington and vote the way they want, not the way we want.”
