Facebook wager payoff

Parks and Recreation Director Rick Herold got a free lunch Thursday at one of his favorite restaurants, Simply Asia, when Arlington’s Parks and Recreation Director Pete Jamieson had to make good on a friendly wager on which department could signup the most fans to their Facebook page.

The contest between the two began in December and concluded March 1 with Grand Prairie garnering more than 2,000 fans to beat Arlington.

Throughout the contest both cities stayed close with Grand Prairie surging ahead near the end to win.

Gary Packan, Assistant Director, Arlington Parks and Recreation, said before the contest each city had only a few hundred fans. The contest brought in thousands of fans that now make each city’s Facebook more popular than many of the country’s largest cities’ even surpassing New York City’s page.

With the large number Facebook fans Herold said, it gives his marketing team, Chris Cato and Kelly Eddlemon, another useful tool to communicate with citizens and spread the word about Grand Prairie’s Parks and Recreation.
