Police K-9 takes top honors in competition

Grand Prairie police officer Albert Martinez and his canine partner Rocco, took top honors in the tracking event at the United States Police Canine Association Field Trails held March 15-19 in Cedar Hill.

For the first time, all four Grand Prairie K-9 units participated in the trials that grade K-9 teams on narcotics/bomb searches in vehicles and buildings, tracking, obedience, suspect search, article search, agility, and criminal apprehension.

Grand Prairie's K-9 units placed in 10 different categories:

3rd Place – Criminal Apprehension
3rd Place – Agility
2nd Place – Team Event
3rd Place – Overall in Top Dog

Lance Monte and Gauge

2nd Place – Building Searches/Narcotics

Jeff Askin and Sarah

3rd Place – Vehicle Searches/Narcotics

Jon Granberry and Aico

3rd Place – Obedience Work
3rd Place – Article Searches
2nd Place – Team Event

The USPCA field trials are an annual event that draws 20-40 police canine teams from across North Texas.
