Fall Indie Fest - now accepting applications

Texas independent film makers and musicians may now begin sending in their application to participate in the festival. Applicants must submit their application forms, 3 copies of the DVD or CD and an entry fee check via mail to:

The regular deadline for submittals is July 7, 2010 with a $30 entry fee. The late deadline will be $49 per entry and must be postmarked by August 8, 2010. Make checks payable to City of Grand Prairie. Visit Fall Indie Fest online to download the form and see the General Rules and Guidelines for Music and Film. Fall Indie Fest will be releasing the details of the winning prize packages shortly. Award winners in the open age division will win a minimum cash prize $1,000, and the OVERALL winning band will receive a recording contract. In addition, there is the possibility of a distribution opportunity for the winning films. Student division winners will also receive exciting prizes. Details will be released soon.

Fall Indie Fest is a celebration of independent film and independent music to be held in downtown Grand Prairie in the fall of 2010. The event is a competition for independent filmmakers and musicians from Texas. The festival will include screenings of full length and short films created by Texas film makers and concerts by Texas artists from all genres. Screenings and concerts will begin Thursday, October 7, 2010. The festival will culminate on October 10, 2010 with a reception and announcement of winners at the city’s historic Uptown Theater. Judging will be done by a panel of industry professionals, media representatives, event and event officials. All of the "Official Selections" in the film categories will be screened during the festival. We expect that all "Official Selections" in the music categories will also be showcased during the festival.

Film categories include:

  • Feature length film - Feature films must have a minimum running time of 50 minutes to qualify in this category. Documentaries and narratives are accepted in this category.
  • Short film - For a film to qualify as a Short Film, it must have a running time of no more than 49 minutes, including credits. Live action, documentaries and animated shorts are accepted in this category.
  • Music video - A short film, between 3 and 6 minutes, that accompanies a complete piece of music or song. The video should serve the purpose of marketing the performers and their music.
  • Trailer/teaser - To qualify as a trailer/teaser, the film must have a running time of no more than 3 minutes. The video should serve the purpose of marketing the film.

All film categories will include an open division and a youth division for students 18 years and under. Film makers should self select into a category. Music categories include:

  • Rock - which could include metal, hard rock, punk, and traditional rock and roll
  • Country - including western swing, traditional country, bluegrass
  • Urban - including jazz, blues, rap, R&B, and hip-hop
  • Latino es musica en espanol or music with a significant Latino influence
  • Spiritual - including any religious themed music
  • Pop & Adult Contemporary - including alternative and vocal based music with varying degrees of rock
  • Dance & Electronic
  • Texas - while hard to define exactly tends to have a specific sound and theme that is unique to our state.

All music categories will include an open division and a youth division for students 18 years and under.

Once a month, February 2, 2010, March 3, 2010, April 4, 2010 and onward through the festival dates, updates and other information about the contests and festival will be released.

The City of Grand Prairie presents Fall Indie Fest with partners Redrock Micro and SB Visionaries to create a stunning one-of-a-kind event for independent minded Texans. Downtown Grand Prairie will come alive with film screenings and concerts in venues ranging from the Uptown Theater, to Market Square, to big stages and screens throughout Main Street.
