Elderly man killed during burglary
Grand Prairie police are investigating the murder of Johnie Stailey, 69, at his home in the 1100 block of Ruea, Sunday around 6:25 p.m.
Police said Stailey and his wife had returned home from church to find their home being burglarized.
Johnie Stailey sent his wife out of the house to call police and confronted the burglar.
While outside, Mrs. Stailey heard gunshots and returned inside the home to find her husband shot. She ran to a neighbor’s house to call police.
Johnie Stailey was transported to Methodist Hospital where he died about 10:15 p.m. Sunday.
Grand Prairie police have made an arrest of a “person of interest.” Although the person has not been charged in connection with the burglary/murder, he is being held on an unrelated warrant while the investigation continues.
