Volunteers put fresh paint on Immaculate Conception Catholic School
More than a 140 dads and daughters from Ursuline Academy in Dallas came to Immaculate Conception School Saturday morning to paint the exterior of the portable buildings and the interior of the gymnasium to give the school a sprucing up.
Immaculate Conception, a 57 year old Pre-K through 8th grade private Catholic school in northeast Grand Prairie, is one of the few sister diocesan schools in the Dallas area. Five sisters live in an on property convent, four teach in the school, Principal Linda Santos said.
Steve Kasper with Ursuline Dad’s Club said Ursuline Academy of Dallas is a 135 year old independent Catholic college preparatory school for young women in grades 9-12. He said each year the Dad’s Club reaches out to help a different parish school or church with minor maintenance work that dads and daughters can perform, such as painting.
He added that after the club looked at three different locations, Immaculate Conception was chosen as this year’s project.
Ursuline Academy senior Kelsey Dunn and her dad Mike Kelly of Plano said that not only do they feel good about their work benefiting the community. They added it is a nice to be together, learn a little about the other and see one another in a different environment away from home.
“At home, you don’t ever get to like paint a gym wall,” Kelsey said.
She continued that a few things she learned working with her dad, “He is really hard working, he’s determined to get the paint to stick and I know paint will not stick on aluminum, now.”
Kesley said after graduation she plans to attend the University of Missouri and major in broadcast communication.
