Tools for Schools gets supplies to school children
The Grand Prairie United Charities (GPUC) held its second annual Tools for Schools Saturday at Inglewood Baptist Church giving school supplies along with first day school outfits to approximately 370 pre-selected needy children in the Grand Prairie Independent School District.
GPUC Executive Director Debby Blubaugh said it took about 200 volunteers along with a host of organizations, businesses and donors to make the event possible.
“This is a collaboration of the community. The people coming together to make sure that their friends and neighbors have the items that they need to start school,” Blubaugh said.
One recipient, whose name the Grand Prairie Reporter chose not to publish, said she has custody of her four grandchildren and is on a fixed income. She added, Tools for School was truly a blessing for her because she did not know how on her own she could have purchased the necessary school supplies for her grandchildren to start school.
