School Superintendent introduces new Director of Athletics
At Tuesday’s reception at the Grand Prairie Independent School District Education Center, School Superintendent Dr. Susan Simpson introduced the district’s new Director of Athletics Troy Mathieu to the public.
Mathieu leaves the Washington DC public schools where he was the Director of Athletics. Although a Louisiana native, Mathieu served as an Assistant Superintendent – Athletics for the Dallas ISD from 1997 to 2006.
“When I left Texas I knew right away I needed to get back,” Mathieu said. “There is no quality of life that can compare to what Texas offers.”
Mathieu went on to say he was very excited about working in the Grand Prairie ISD, but when he saw the South Grand Prairie High School football team conducting spring work outs, he knew he had to “hit-the-ground running” for football season is only a couple of months away.
He said he is very appreciative of the district’s support for athletics because it realizes “athletics can work hand-in-hand with education.”
“There is a focus on it [athletics] and there is an emphasis on excellence and you train kids and they reach their potential,” Mathieu said. “They don’t all get to play college or pro-ball but they get to reach their potential.”
