Fire evacuates Wright Senior Apartments

The Grand Prairie Fire Department received a call around 4:00 p.m. Friday reporting a fire at the Wright Senior Apartments, 1104 South Carrier Parkway.
Firefighters evacuated all the residences from their apartments as the fire was located on a third floor balcony.
Five buses from the City of Grand Prairie’s transit system were called to the scene to standby if needed for transportation and to provide shelter for the elderly residents who had to stand in the parking lot while firefighters extinguished the fire.
Mike Sieg, Assistant Chief – Operations/Fire Marshal, said the fire was started by a discarded cigarette and it traveled up a wooden support into the attic. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it could spread throughout the attic.
The fire caused minimal damage and only one resident was displaced Sieg said. He said there were no injuries, but two residents were treated by paramedics for breathing problems caused by the evacuation.
