Last week the California Board of Parole denied the compassionate release of Susan Atkins a follower of Charles Manson that was convicted to life in prison for the 1969 stabbing death of actress Sharon Tate.
Ms Atkins’ doctors and officials at the prison where she is being held made the request in March because of her deteriorating health due to brain cancer. Atkins' left leg had to be amputated and she is paralyzed on her right side.
Her lawyer said Atkins is no longer a threat and releasing her would save California an estimated $1.4 million for medical care and security.
