The 1st Annual DFW Public Safety Baseball tournament began Thursday morning with ten area public safety teams competing in the double elimination tournament that runs through Sunday at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie.

One of the event organizers, Grand Prairie Police Association President, Detective Heath Wester, said the tournament is a benefit for the Guns and Hoses Foundation of North Texas whose mission is to provide monetary support for families of fallen police and firefighters.

Detective Wester said he already has plans for next year’s event and hopes to have enough teams competing that he will need two ball fields.
