LyondellBasell announces plans to close Grand Prairie facility
Following its February 2008 acquisition of Solvay Engineered Polymers, Inc., LyondellBasell one of the worlds largest polymers, petrochemicals and fuels company announced Monday, plans to consolidate its North American based polypropylene compounding production and close its Grand Prairie facility.
The plant located at 1201 Avenue H will close by the end of the year. Its production will move to the company’s nearby plant in Mansfield and to its new plant in Altamire, Mexico, scheduled to begin production this year.
“Our goal is to provide the most effective service to customers and to utilize resources more efficiently by consolidating our polypropylene compounding assets and streamlining business operations,” said Steve Dwyer, Divisional Vice President of LyondellBasell’s Automotive Americas business.
Mark Mendelson, Head of Business Communication for LyondellBasell, said, “We do not have specific employment information available,” when asked how the closing would affect the employees at the Grand Prairie plant.
