Grand Prairie ISD releases preliminary TAKS scores

For the first time since the implementation of the more rigorous TAKS test in 2003, Grand Prairie ISD will have its first Exemplary campuses. Staff and students at Powell Elementary School and Moore Elementary School are very excited with the initial results indicating they have met the state’s highest criteria for student achievement.
District TAKS results indicate single digit and double digit increases in 24 of the 25 categories in which GPISD is rated including: All Students, African American, Hispanic, White, and Low Socioeconomic.
Some of the largest increases are in Hispanic Math, Science and Social Studies; African American Math, Science and Social Studies; and Low Socioeconomic Math, Science and Social Studies.
These results bring the District scores to the Exemplary and Recognized range in 17 of 25 scored areas. Just a year ago, GPISD had District scores as low as 45% - 50% mastery and one of the two high schools was facing reconstitution. Today the lowest district score is 13 points away from Recognized status, a 17-percentage point jump from last year.
