Standoff ends with police shooting suspect

Detective John Brimmer, Grand Prairie police spokesman, said the incident began around 4:09 a.m. when police were called to investigate a man with a gun who was threatening to kill himself. When officers arrived they found Stanmore barricaded inside his apartment and discharging a firearm.
Residents in surrounding apartments had to be evacuated for safety sake as the department's tactical team and negotiators were brought in.
Negotiators made contact with Stanmore but were unable to talk him into surrendering. He continued to fire numerous rounds while inside his apartment.
About 7:05 a.m. Stanmore began firing at police and exited his apartment armed with a handgun. The sharpshooter had to shoot the suspect in order to protect other officers and the public, Detective Brimmer said.
Initial information provided to police indicates Stanmore may have suffered from a mental disorder and had recently quit taking his medication.
Stanmore was transported by Fire Department ambulance to Medical Center of Arlington where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Detective Brimmer said none of the Grand Prairie police officers were injured by the gun fire and the officer involved in the shooting will placed on paid administrative leave while the department's internal affairs investigates the shooting.

Kevin Stanmore was a sweet and gentle man that should e remembered for the good he did in this world. He volunteered to donate bone marrow to a 17-year-old boy who had T-cell Lymphoma. Google it to find out more

God Bless Your Soul, William Kevin Stanmore! We will miss You and your Leadership here at the SPBS Machine at the North Texas P&DC. You were the Best Supervisor I ever had in my entire work career. We will always remember the Friday we last had to work for you. You told us, Eddie, Daniel, and myself that we were doing a good job and how you appreciated it. You gave us our instructions and put your hand out for us to put our hands out with yours and said "Ready, Break!" That was so cool. You will always be in our thoughts as we continue on in the SPBS operation. As You would always say after You gave us our service talks; "Lets Rock & Roll, Roll & Rock!" Thank You For All that You meant to us and for being the Great Man that You were..... Thank You Dear God, for Willam Kevin Stanmore! Peace to Your Soul, I Love You as My Brother In Christ. Good Bye, Dear Kevin. We wil be together again in Gods' will. Thank You Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May the Holy Spirit Give the Stanmore Family all their Consolation and Peace. Sincerely, Alexander Cavazos. Amen

From what I have read Kevin Stanmore was the opposite of a vicious criminal.A mental illness recipient who was crying out for help.I advise law enforcement agencies to aquire proper training when coming in contact with mentally ill or suicidal people. This poor man did not have to die.The sharpshooter(name definition explains it all) could have shot this man in the arm to which he allegally had the weapon, tear gas, contacted a family member to pursuade him to come out.Your pictures on the net of smiling officers is disturbing.A husband, father, brother, son, and friend is gone for all the wrong reasons.
