Shooting follows fight at YMCA
A seventeen year-old was shot in the face after an altercation with a group outside of the YMCA located in the 4500 block of South Carrier Parkway Monday afternoon.
Lt. Larry Simmons, Grand Prairie police spokesman, said the victim had been playing basketball with a group of men inside the YMCA until it closed around 3:00 p.m. The group then left the facility and congregated outside in a parking lot. Another group of men arrived and a fight began. After the fight had ended, an unknown man exited a car with a gun and shot the victim. The suspect then fled the scene.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Dallas and at last report was in critical condition. The victim’s name will not be released as the investigation continues, Lt. Simmons said.
