Police implements zero-tolerance approach to alcohol-related offenses

Courtesy Grand Prairie Police Department

Starting Friday, the Grand Prairie, Arlington, and Fort Worth Police Departments will conduct their annual Spring Season DWI and Aggressive Driving Task Force through June 8. The task force will be in operation from 6 p.m. to 4 a.m. Task Force officers will patrol in marked police cars.

This time of the year, with graduation parties, other school gatherings, and the Memorial Day holiday weekend, often results in an increase in motor vehicle collisions. Many of the crashes are alcohol-related and occur in the evening and early morning hours. Because several needless deaths and injuries occur as a result, our departments are doing our part by arresting drunk drivers.

Task force officers and patrol officers will also aggressively search for parties with underage drinkers and will adopt a zero-tolerance stance to such activities. Underage drinkers and any parents or adults who facilitate this illegal and dangerous behavior will be targeted. Criminal and civil penalties may apply and can include charges of minor in possession, public intoxication, providing alcohol to minors, and any other related charges
