On Monday, the AirHogs held their media day at the QuickTrip Park at Grand Prairie.  Members of the media got a tour of the new ballpark, watch batting practice, and meet and interview players.

“We’ve got eleven days and counting.  I’ve been waiting for the 16th for the last five and a half months,” AirHogs General Manager David Burke said.

While there is still construction in progress at the QuickTrip Park, Burke said the ballpark will be finished in time for the May 13 State of the City Address.

“What I’m hoping to accomplish is obviously win a championship,” AirHogs Manager Pete Incaviglia said.  “I think there is a lot more to independent baseball than people probably might know.  These are a lot of very good ballplayers, players that have played in double A, triple A, and the big leagues.  I think we have put together a wonderful team and I think they have good chemistry.  I think we are going to be in the hunt to get to the post season and win a championship.”

Infielder Edwin Maldonado said he was excited about playing for the AirHogs since he lives only 45 minutes from QuickTrip Park.  “It is a great experience to be at home and play for Pete Incaviglia who is a legend in baseball especially in this city.”

“Expectation for us is very high.  I know we are going to be in every game,” Maldonado said.

The AirHogs season begins May 8 when they play the St. Paul Saints in St. Paul, MN.  Tickets are on sale for the AirHogs’ home opener against the Wichita Wingnuts, May 16.  Individual game tickets can be purchased online or by calling the AirHogs at 972-504-9383.
