Grand Prairie Fire Department divers recovered the body of Robert Kilgore, 41, of Mansfield near the Lake Ridge Parkway north bridge over Lake Joe Pool, Friday afternoon.

Police Sergeant Chris Chopin said police and fire were called the area about 10:55 a.m.  A witness who was fishing along the bank near the bridge told police that Kilgore fell into the water while trying to tie his pontoon boat to one of the bridge pillars.  Kilgore then slipped under the water while trying to swim after the boat that had drifted away.

Rashad Taylor of Grand Prairie said he was driving on Lake Ridge Parkway when he was flagged down by fishermen and told of the accident.  He used his cell phone to notify police.

It took divers about two hours to locate Kilgore's body which was in 25 foot of water, 30 to 40 yards from the north shore, Sergeant Chopin said.  Kilgore was not wearing a life jacket.

The incident is under investigation by the police, Sergeant Chopin said.
