Council tables airport terminal matching fund grant

The City Council unanimously voted Tuesday night to table an amendment to a grant of matching funds from Texas Department of Transportation for the design of an airport terminal at the Grand Prairie Municipal Airport.

Councilman Rick Sala said in the council briefing session he would like to see some results of a market research, “ One more look if we’re going in the right direction.”

He said that with new technology he wanted to make sure we designed the terminal to go after the market we want to attract to the airport whether that is microjet traffic, a super heliport or general aviation.

Grand Prairie needs to consider future air traffic due the new Cowboys stadium in Arlington and the Super Bowl coming, he said.

With the city’s central location, Grand Prairie could become a destination of choice for microjet traffic and just did not want to miss on this new emerging market, Sala said.
